Autumn News

Hi Ladies

It is hard to believe that we are coming to the end of the eighteen hole playing season.  The summer or what we had of it has just flown.  Although our summer wasn’t the best, the Ladies have been fortunate with Opens and Majors.  Despite the inclement weather conditions, our course has held up very well and a huge Thank You must go to Tommy Carew and his course staff for a job well done.
The Captain’s Prize to the Ladies was played over a Sunday and Tuesday, the weather for both days held up, and Aine Keogh returned to the winning enclosure having played some great golf.
Our Lady Presidents day was great, the sun shone. We had a terrific competition, and some great golf saw Ann O’Malley on the winners podium.
For Lady Captain’s weekend the weather once again behaved.  We had two lovely days, and some tremendous golf.  The scoring was marvellous and Aishling O’Connor won with a net 141.
Our Medal competitions this year have also produced some great golf and remember there is one more to go, the September Medal on Sunday 21st and Tuesday 23rd,. Get yourselves out there and have a go.
Last Sunday 7th September we held the Matchplay Finals, and a great day ensued.  Anne Bolster and Ann O’Malley contested the singles with Anne Bolster emerging victorious.   The doubles contest was between Margaret Bradshaw and Rosemary O’Connor with Joan Fitzgerald and Mary Kenny.  Joan and Mary won this epic.
Well done to all of you who won and participated in all these events.  Without you they would not happen.
Now for the bad news, hallow coring, sanding etc is scheduled for Monday September 29th, doesn’t that just spell the oncoming of autumn!!!  One of these mornings we will go out to find the temporary greens have been cut, then Ann O’Malley and Moria O’Connell and a few more Ladies will go into hibernation, a sure sign that winter has arrived.
A reminder of a few upcoming dates;
September Ladies Open;          Thursday 18th September
Ladies weekend away 10/11th October.
A Night at the Dogs                  Friday 31st October
Ladies AGM                            Tuesday 4th November
Captains Dinner                        Saturday 8th November
Lady Captain’s Dinner              Saturday 22nd November
Christmas Fare;                        Saturday 13th December

I hope to see you all at most of these events.

Catherine

Men's News

The Best Cup Team have for the third year running reached the final of the competition. This is an amazing achievement and let us hope that three in a row will be achieved for the first time in the history of the competition. Well done to The Barton Cup and the Jimmy Bruen on progressing through the various rounds. A special mention to the J.B Carr Team who advanced through the 5th round only to be beaten by Tullamore.
The Junior programme has reached the end of its Summer Campaign but there will be competitions held on various Sundays over the winter period. These times will appear the club timesheet.
There has been  a marked improvement in slow play and there is need to keep this up going forward. It should not take longer than 3.5 hours to play a three ball and 3 hours 50 for a fourball.
Swiping into the competition and returning is being monitored also at the moment. You must return your scorecards at all times as it affects the standard scratch.
