Dear Members
Thank you for your support this past year. We will continue to rely on members support for 2010 as the current financial situation works itself out. Every single member is in a position to help by bringing guests as green fees or perhaps if you are involved in a society by considering us as fixture on your list for next year.
Sponsorship plays a huge part in the financial success of the club so if you are in a position to contribute in any way please keep us in mind.
A new golfing season has begun and may I wish you all good things on the golf course and in all aspects of your lives in 2010.
We look forward to the season ahead and hope for success for our teams during the year but most importantly we look forward to the social side of the golf. We do plan on arranging a number of fun competitions, the first one on Sunday, 14th February. This will be a team event with the public sector battling the private sector (is that supposed to be fun!) – the non-aligned may support whichever sector most needs help or perhaps hindrance!
As always, we are participating in the AA Championships, the Miele the Irish Mixed Foursomes and Cullen Cup competitions and our team managers are:
Junior Cup Catherine Quinn
Intermediate Cup Frances Corrigan
Minor Cup Deirdre Brennan
Challenge Cup Enda Corrigan
Senior Foursomes Anne Reville
Junior Foursomes Ann Coventry
Miele Ann Chalkley
Mixed Moira O’Connell
The Ladies Club weekend away is arranged for Druid’s Glen on 25th-27th June – we will be playing Druid’s Heath on the Friday and Druid’s Glen on Saturday. Get your name on the sheet and pay your deposit to Mary Kenny, our Social Secretary. Venue still to be decided for Ladies Day Away but it will probably be in August.
Dates to remember for those of you booking your summer holidays: Lady President’s Prize – Sunday, 13th June; Lady Captain’s Prize – Saturday, 24th, and Sunday, 25th July.
Thank you all for your good wishes for the year. Here’s hoping we have a bit of good weather with lots of fun and success on the golf course throughout 2010.
Brigid Kennedy
Lady Captain
At last after the snow and ice earlier in the year we can look forward to brighter evenings and better weather and the promise of an exciting golfing year.
The introduction of the spring lamb competitions will hopefully ensure plenty of competition and fun over the next few weeks and the promise of a voucher for the Easter Sunday lunch.
The Interclub Competitions Committee has put in place a comprehensive programme for team selection, preparation and management. This includes a 6 lesson group coaching programme under the watchful eye of our PGA Professional Felix Murphy. It will cover all areas of the game including course management. All team managers are in place and they urge you to put your name on the team sheets in the locker room in order to ensure plenty of competition for places and that the strongest possible teams represent Craddockstown this year.
The Handicap Committee has completed the annual review and everything is in place for the start of the new season.
Willie O’Connor has the usual bunch in Dundrum House for a weekend of golf and fun in the middle of April and of course the club is playing away in Wales later in the year. Only those with extraordinary stamina and powers of recuperation need apply. Con Matthews is one of the organisers for this event which is our initial venture onto the European Seniors Tour. (let it be noted that fun and craic is a very important part of this trip and golfing ability is somewhere in the top 10 requirements.)
There are still some of the green fee vouchers available from the office and they would make a nice gift for family or friends.
The Captains Drive In is nearly upon us (6th March) and let’s ensure it is a memorable day for Gerry, Brigid and Conor.
It has been decided that anyone using the course MUST report to the Professionals shop and sign in. If the shop is closed please register in the bar. This is to ensure that we can monitor where people are on the course in case of an emergency.
If you have any funny or unusual stories that would make interesting reading please email or drop it in to the office and we may include it in our news
